1948 Jamboree at Brancepeth
The kilted gent is the Chief Scout, Lord Rowallan, standing with other scouting dignitaries. "Sixty South Shields Scouts consisting mainly of our troop and all drawn from the School gave a P.T. display which the Chief praised generously" (ATOM, December 1948). Michael Lawrenson remembers this camp for one ghastly incident: Loos were crude in the extreme, and consisted of a long line of wooden seats, and the urinal was a pit used by everyone - one poor lad fell into this pit and had to be rescued!
