The kilted gent is the Chief Scout, Lord Rowallan,
standing with other scouting dignitaries. "Sixty South Shields Scouts
consisting mainly of our troop and all drawn from the School gave a P.T.
display which the Chief praised generously" (ATOM, December 1948).
Michael Lawrenson remembers this camp for one ghastly incident: Loos were
crude in the extreme, and consisted of a long line of wooden seats, and
the urinal was a pit used by everyone - one poor lad fell into this pit
and had to be rescued!
