In the beginning days of the school, this area, at the north-east corner of the site next to the main entrance from Lisle Road, was empty (a caretaker's house was planned for the far right, but it appears not to have been built, using instead the first house on the left in Lisle Road).

In the early 70s, the dining hall was transferred to a new building on this site, but this was demolished and the new building houses the dining centre and a community hall.
