Joseph Lackland Anderson was the oldest child of James Lackland & Florentine Anderson.

He joined Westoe Secondary School in 1910, leaving a year later to be a shipyard apprentice.

He joined the Northumberland Hussars as a Private, serving in France, and was later promoted to Lance Corporal.

He survived the war, and emigrated to Australia to live in Maryborough (just north of Brisbane) , eventually rising to be a shipyard manager.

He first wife, South-Shields-born Marian Lilian Loads died in 1954, and he married Myra Doris McKewen in 1958.

Joseph died in 1988 at the age of 91.
