James Graham Archer was the son of foreman-blacksmith, Robert Archer and on leaving school he worked at Redhead's shipyard as a joiner.

In August, 1914, he joined the 16th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers, and served in Flanders. where, on 26-Apr-1916, while he and others were repairing their trenches, he was killed by a shell.

He is buried in the Authuile Military Cemetery in the Somme, France.
