Alfred Eltringham was the son of accountant, Alfred Eltringham, and his wife Ada.

He joined the High School in 1912 having been a boarder at the North Eastern County School in Barnard Castle, and remained at the High School until he sat the preliminary examination for Incorporate Accountant, at which point he left to work in his father's office.

Nothing is known of his WWI service, other than he joined the Public Schools Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers, and survived the war.

During WWII he served with the RAF Voluntary Resrrve, apoointed as Sergeant in 1942. He was promoted to Squadron Leader in 1944, and awarded the AFC in 1946.

Alfred died in South Shields in 1969.
