Henry Barnsley Pettler was the son of Yorkshire-born butcher, Richard Henry , and his wife Mary Reed Pettler.

He joined Westoe Secondary School in 1900, and followed his father and became a butcher on leaving school.

He joined the Durham Light Infantry as a Private, but little else is known about him other than he died in South Shields on 11-Aug-1957 ub
